So you may be asking, who or what is a Northern Girl? Well I am a girl that can be many things to many people: friend, enigma, explorer, companion, or just a fellow lover of life. At heart though I am what you would call an explorer of life - an avid lover of the outdoors and Alaska and that is where my spare time usually finds me: enjoying these passions or looking for new ones to conquer.

I love to meet new people [even though I can be excessively shy at times] and for the most part tend to have a naturally cheery disposition. If there is one trait that is important to me, it is laughter. After all, I love to laugh and make people laugh. It is simply some of the best medicine around.

In short, I look upon life as a new series of adventures to be explored and new interests to harvest. Simply living it as if each day were my last. Willing to see where it leads me.

Thats me in a nut shell! Feel free to say hi! And thanks for stopping by.

Tid Bits or Simply Useless Facts

1. I have lost over 140 pounds in a 2 year period. Yes it was by choice. It is my goal to finish a marathon (done!) and then a triathlon.

2. I am completely nomadic at heart. If I could give up everything and continuously travel around the world, I would do so in a heartbeat.

3. I suffer from an auto immune disorder known as Systemic Lupus [SLA] that I was diagnosed with over 15 years ago. Luckily my flareups have greatly diminished over the past 5 years to where they are no longer debilitating. I attribute this to changing my lifestyle and learning to take better care of myself.

4. I am fascinated with bears. So much so that I will search them out. I consider myself extremely luck to have had some amazing encounters with them in the wild.

5. I am entirely self taught with any computer program I use or any hobby I participate in - including photography.

6. I have the tendency to take on too many projects at once. I'll openly admit I'm great at getting started but can have problems with finishing them at times. In fact when I was a girl scout I once ordered 45 cases of girl scout cookies to sell. I was an over-achiever in a green suit.

7. I am a complete connoisseur of road trips. It is not uncommon for me to spend a large part of my time enjoying the open road. In fact I have the tendency to take a 1500+ mile road trip by myself around Alaska every fall.

8. I have an intense love of animals and have always picked up and nursed strays back to health. Including birds, squirrels, rabbits, dogs, cats, a raven, etc. Yet I have no animals of my own.

Why Alaska?
I'm a nearly lifelong Alaskan who ended up here as most tend to do - by means of the military. In this case the US Air Force. Over the years I have come to have a love/hate relationship with the state. Lets face it, for a girl that worships the sun, the winters can be long and grueling. But it is home and its spirit burns within me. And right now, I don't see myself being anywhere else.
